A Question For The Community: Comfortable Bed Cushions

"My wife has SMA and we are spending a fortune trying to find the right cushion for her to be able to sit. She started getting bedsores about a year ago and it's hard for her to sit up, plus her hips bother her a lot.

Any suggestions on a good cushion? We've tried the air up kind they hurt her... please advise."

  1. Hi there! I would recommend trying to by a foam bed topper and cutting it to fit your chair! I would also recommend talking with your care team and explaining that sores are becoming a problem. They would be able to help find a cushion that is more aromatic and comfortable as well as refer you to the wound care clinic for more ideas maybe! -Jennifer

    1. I think we need to lie on water bed to help heal sores. May be search for "water bed for bed sores" in Amazon or Google.

      1. a water bed might be a good option! Although if she’s experiencing sores I’d definitely let your doctor know so they don’t become a bigger issue for both of you! One thing I can recommend is a foam mattress topper if you aren’t able to switch to a water bed right away! And they also have pressure relief mattress covers that I believe insurance will cover with a well written doctors recommendation; the mattress pad fills with air and will inflate and deflate to prevent pressure sores all night long. Has this issue gotten any better for you? Have you found any solutions that have helped? We are all here for you both! -Jennifer SpinalMuscularAtrophy.net Team Member
